We welcome you to ST HILARY`S Church this evening as we share in the
Christingle Service together.
Christingle
“Christingle"
means Christ-Light and derives from the Moravian custom of distributing lighted
candles to children on Christmas Eve. The theme of the worship is
Jesus, the Light of the World. Christingle was popularised by The ChiIdren's
Society in 1968 and today's Service is held in support of its work.
*The orange represents the world.
The cocktail sticks
represent the 4 corners of the world and the 4 seasons.
The fruit stands for all
the good things God gives us.
The red ribbon reminds
us of Jesus` blood, shed when he died for us on the Cross.
The candle represents Jesus, who shines his bright light into the dark
corners of this world.
We
prepare to worship
Vicar
Christ has brought us out of darkness

Minister
May God our Father grant us the light of Christ, that we may shine with his
love, be prompt to serve and ever eager to follow in his steps, who is the true
light and source of life
All Amen
We listen to God`s Word
Alice::
Luke Chapter 9 verses 46-48 |
An argument began amongst the disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. Then he said to them, "Who ever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and who ever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he is least among you all - he is the greatest".
Alice says:
This is the Word of the Lord

Our
Prayers
Prayers led by
Megan.
Lord Jesus Christ, Light of the World,
shine into the darkness of lives without
hope. We pray for children who see
crime as a way of life. Help us to show
them how to find another way. Shine
your light in their darkness.
Sing together
The Lord is my light, my light and salvation,
In him I trust, in him I trust.
Leader
Lord Jesus Christ, Light of the World,
shine into the darkness of lives lived in
fear. We pray for children who have run
away from home or are at risk. Help us to
stand by them so that they may discover
strength. Shine your light in their darkness.
Lord Jesus Christ, Light of the World,
shine into the darkness of lives lived in
conflict. We pray for children who are
refugees, torn by the tension of life in a
new culture. Help us to understand their
conflicts so that they may find acceptance.
Shine your light into their darkness.
Sing together
The Lord is my light, my light and salvation,
In him I trust, in him I trust.
Leader
Lord Jesus Christ, Light of the World, we
thank you for the work of The Children’s
Society. We pray that through their
projects and their workers your light
might shine into the lives of children lost
in the darkness of fear, disregard and
conflict. Help us, with them, to shine
your light into the darkness. Amen.
At the end of the prayers
All
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your
kingdom come,
your
will be done on earth as in heaven.
Give
us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we
forgive those who sin against us.
Lead
us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours,
now and for over. Amen.

Christingle Hymn
Tune Lourdes
Round orange, round orange you serve as a sign
that God made the world with a purpose divine.
The power of love is always the same:
be glad, give thanks, rejoice in God's name.
Red ribbon, you tell of the bloodshed and pain
which led to forgiveness when Jesus was slain.
The power of love....
Ripe fruits, freely given, this truth you recall;
when God hands out presents they're meant for us
all.
The power of love….
Bright candle, the message you carry is clear:
the true light from God found a home with us here
The power of love….
The lights are dimmed and Rev Ken says a prayer for the work of
The Children`s Society.
The lights are put on, the candles put out and everyone returns to their seat.
Hymn:
Shine Jesus Shine -
Lord, the light of your
love is shining
in the midst of the darkness shining;
Jesus, light of the world, shine upon us,
set us free by the truth you now bring us,
shine on me, shine on me.
Shine, Jesus,
shine, fill this land with the Father's glory; blaze, Spirit, blaze,
set our hearts on fire! Flow, river, flow, flood
the nations with grace and mercy; send forth your word,
Lord, and let there be light.
Lord, I come to your awesome presence, from the shadows into your radiance; by the blood I may enter your brightness, search me, try me, consume all my darkness. Shine on me, shine on me.
Shine, Jesus, shine
……..
As we gaze on your kingly brightness so our faces display your likeness, ever changing from glory to glory, mirrored here may our
lives tell your story. Shine on me, shine on me.
