St. Hilary's Miniature Church Advent Calendar 2009

 Sunday 6th December 2009

Adele is excited because she has been allowed to decorate the churchyard Christmas tree that is traditionally placed just outside the back of the church.  Ambrose has already put the lights on and has switched them on.  Doesn't it look really pretty?  She is just going to add this decorative cracker on to it.  Oh dear.....Esme and Ernest have joined her as has Magnifi-Cat......we hope that they are going to be helpful!

It is just as well Adele has got a lovely warm  scarf around her neck to keep her warm as it is quite cold outside!

Adele loves singing the carol she has chosen for today. It makes her feel even more excited about the arrival of baby Jesus and the celebration of His birthday at Christmas.   Find out which one it is below...........

(Words by Michael Praetorius (1571 - 1621)

great and mighty wonder
A full and holy cure!
The Virgin bears the Infant
With virgin honour pure.
Repeat the hymn again:
"To God on high be glory
And peace on earth to men!"

The Word becomes Incarnate,
And yet remains on high:
And cherubim sing anthems
To shepherds from the sky.
Repeat the hymn again:
"To God on high be glory
And peace on earth to men!"

While thus they sing your Monarch
Those bright angelic bands,
Rejoice, ye vales and mountains,
Ye oceans, clap your hands.
Repeat the hymn again:
"To God on high be glory
And peace on earth to men!"

Since all he comes to ransom,
By all be he adored,
The Infant born in Beth’lem,
The Saviour and the Lord.
Repeat the hymn again:
"To God on high be glory
And peace on earth to men!"

And idol forms shall perish,
And error shall decay,
And Christ shall wield his sceptre;
Our Lord and God for aye.
Repeat the hymn again:
"To God on high be glory
And peace on earth to men!"
